How the Fence Calculator Works

Fence length and maximum post spacing determine the number of fence sections. A straight fence normally requires one more post than the number of sections.

Sections = Fence Length ÷ Maximum Post Spacing, rounded up

Pickets are estimated from their width and the gap between them. The extra-material percentage adds an allowance for cuts, damaged material, and other waste.
