Pool Pump Electricity Cost & Savings Calculator
What does your pool pump cost now, and what would a future setup cost? Compare power draw and schedules side by side.
Starting values are editable examples, not a forecast of pump savings. Both schedules are independent.

Monthly savings divide the annual cost difference by the current setup's operating months. If the two seasons differ, this is an averaged annual difference over the current season, not a month-by-month forecast. Percentages compare annual totals with the current setup.

Calculation details
Weekly energy is daily kWh × operating days per week. A typical operating month uses 52 / 12 weeks. Seasonal / annual energy uses daily kWh × days per week × (52 / 12) × operating months. A full-year daily schedule therefore uses 364 operating days, not 365.
Costs use the same electricity rate for both setups. With zero operating months, seasonal energy and cost are zero and no operating-month cost exists. The daily result still describes one scheduled operating day.
How it works
Pool pump electricity use depends on actual electrical power draw and how long the pump runs. For a single-power schedule, watts divided by 1,000 × daily hours gives kWh per operating day. A multi-speed schedule adds the energy from each entered power level.
We compare pool pump running cost per operating month and year, then estimate the difference. Optional simple payback divides entered net upgrade cost by positive annual electricity savings; it excludes financing, maintenance and present-value calculations.
Understanding the estimate
Horsepower is not the same as electrical watts consumed. Variable-speed pumps can draw very different power at different speeds. Use measured watts or reliable manufacturer electrical data to estimate variable speed pool pump savings; this tool does not infer consumption from horsepower or RPM and does not promise a universal savings percentage.
Results are estimates based on your entered power draw, operating schedule and electricity price. Different filtration, water treatment, heating, climate and pool requirements may change the schedule you need. This tool does not recommend a safe filtration time or assess pump sizing. Follow appropriate pool equipment and water-care guidance.
Results are rounded for readability; calculations use unrounded values. Costs use dollars. Time-of-use rates, tiered pricing and future rate changes are not modeled. Rebates exceeding entered costs floor net upgrade cost at zero.
