Rolls and pallets are rounded up so the estimate does not leave the project short. Pallet coverage and return policies vary by supplier.

How the Sod Calculator Works

The calculator multiplies the lawn length by its width to find the measured area. It then adds your selected extra-material percentage before estimating the number of rolls and pallets needed.

Sod Order Area = Length × Width × (1 + Extra Material Percentage)

How Much Extra Sod Should You Order?

A 5% allowance may be enough for a simple rectangular lawn with very few cuts. A 10% allowance is a useful general estimate. Irregular lawns, curves, obstacles, and extensive trimming may require 15% or more.

Roll and Pallet Sizes

Sod is sold in different roll, slab, and pallet sizes depending on the grower and region. Some pallets cover roughly 450 square feet, while others cover 500 square feet or more. Always enter the coverage stated by your supplier.
