How the Tile Calculator Works

The calculator finds the total project area, subtracts entered openings, and divides the remaining area by the space covered by each tile and grout joint. It then adds your selected waste allowance.

Tiles Needed = Net Area ÷ Tile-and-Grout Module Area

How Much Extra Tile Should You Buy?

A 10% allowance is commonly used for ordinary straight layouts. Simple rooms with few cuts may need less. Diagonal patterns, complex layouts, fragile materials, and numerous obstacles may require 15% or more.

Why Keep Extra Tile?

Keeping several matching tiles after installation can make future repairs easier. Dye lots, shades, textures, and product dimensions may change or become unavailable.
