How the Flooring Calculator Works

Add each room that will receive the same flooring. The calculator totals the room areas, adds the selected waste allowance, and divides the required flooring by the coverage provided by one box.

Boxes Required = Room Area × (1 + Waste Percentage) ÷ Box Coverage

How Much Extra Flooring Should You Buy?

A 10% waste allowance is a common starting point for straightforward rooms. Consider 12% to 15% for diagonal layouts, irregular rooms, numerous corners, patterned products, or installations requiring many cuts.

Should You Keep Extra Flooring?

Keeping a small amount of matching flooring can help with future repairs. Colors, finishes, and product dimensions may change or become unavailable after the original flooring is purchased.

Measure Irregular Rooms

Divide an irregular room into smaller rectangles. Add each section as a separate room, then let the calculator combine the areas before applying the waste allowance.
